The ICC T20 World Cup 2022 is just around the corner and the Indian team has been hit with a couple of big blows. With the Indian team already losing the all-rounder, Ravindra Jadeja for the T20 World Cup, they have lost yet another star player in the form of Jasprit Bumrah.
Bumrah, who has played the last two T20Is against Australia recently, was not named in the squad for the series against South Africa. But, according to recent reports, he has a serious back stress fracture. Even though he won’t require surgery, he needs to complete 4 to 6 months of rest to recover.
Since he will not be available for the upcoming tournament, the Rohit Sharma-led team will find it difficult to find a perfect replacement for Bumrah. In our article, we take a look at the 3 players who might replace the star pacer in the T20 World Cup squad.
Mohammed Shami
The right-arm fast bowler, Mohammed Shami has been on the reserve list for the T20I World Cup. Since he has more experience and can bowl at a high pace, he can be a good replacement for Bumrah.
Shami, who was part of the T20I World Cup last year, has not played in any T20I games since the management wants him to manage the workload. He would look to replicate the performance he provided for the Gujarat Titans if he gets an opportunity.
Deepak Chahar
Deepak Chahar, also in the reserves for the upcoming tournament, is one of the top contenders to make it into the main squad. He had a long break from the game due to the injury.
In 2 ODIs and 5 T20Is this year, he has picked up 5 and 5 wickets at an economy of 6 and 8 respectively. In a recently concluded T20I game against South Africa, he grabbed up two important wickets.
Mohammed Siraj
The right-arm quick bowler, Mohammed Siraj might replace the India‘s premium bowler, Bumrah. Though Siraj did not have great IPL this year, he has been in tremendous form in the recent games.
He is currently playing for Warwickshire in the County Champions in England. If the reports are to be believed, he was included in the squad for the remaining two T20Is against South Africa.
