Team India led by Rohit Sharma will face Pakistan under the captaincy of Babar Azam at the Dubai International Stadium on August 28. The complete schedule of Asia Cup 2022 has been announced by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC).
ACC chairman Jay Shah has announced the schedule. The mega event will begin on August 27 with the match between Sri Lanka and Afghanistan.
Jay Shah, chairman of the Asian Cricket Council and secretary of BCCI, tweeted, “The wait is finally over as the battle for Asian supremacy begins on 27th August and the final will be played on 11th September.
The 15th edition of the Asia Cup will serve as an ideal preparation before the ICC T20 World Cup. A total of 6 teams are going to participate in this tournament.
In this tournament India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan plus a team will be part of the Asia Cup 2022 through qualifiers. This season of Asia Cup is hosted by the Sri Lanka Cricket Board, but this tournament will be played in the UAE.
ACC has chosen Dubai and Sharjah for this tournament, where a total of 13 matches, including the final, are to be played in 16 days.
India is the defending champion in the Asia Cup. He had won the tournament four years ago in the UAE itself. But at that time it was played in ODI format. The Asia Cup is back in the 20-over format this year. It was also played in T20 format in 2016 and in that edition also India won the tournament under the captaincy of MS Dhoni.
