Mike White was born in Pasadena, California in 1970. He is the son of Reverend Dr. Mel White, a former ghostwriter for religious figures such as Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson. White graduated from Wesleyan University in 1992 with a degree in film theory and philosophy. After graduating, he wrote for the television series Freaks and Geeks (1999–2000) and Dawson’s Creek (1998–2003). He then wrote and directed the independent film Chuck & Buck (2000) and the comedy film School of Rock (2003).
