The upcoming season of the Indian Premier League season is less than a month away. The first game of the season is to be played between Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders on 26th March.
Royal Challengers Bangalore is set to start their campaign against Punjab Kings from 28th March. With Virat Kohli stepping down as captain, the franchise is yet to make a call on the captaincy.
The fans of Royal Challengers are eagerly waiting to know who will be leading the franchise in the upcoming years. Here’s take a look at four potential players who can lead the franchise in IPL 2022.
Glenn Maxwell
The Australian cricketer is one of the front-runners to captain the RCB franchise in the upcoming edition of IPL. He has a good experience of captainship as he led the Punjab Kings before and the Melbourne Stars in the BBL.
He was struggling with his form in his former franchise. But, he has taken his form to next level when joined Virat Kohli and AB de Villers at the RCB. Maxwell had a great season with the bat last year, having scored more than 500 runs.
Faf du Plessis
Another top contender in the race is Faf du Plessis. Though he is not active in the international arena, he is still one of the best in the domestic T20 leagues all around the world.
He also had a great IPL last year, having scored 633 runs from 16 games. As he has good experience of leading his national team, the RCB franchise might believe if he is available till the next mega auction.
Dinesh Karthik
The Tamil Nadu cricketer, Dinesh Karthik is one of the contenders to lead the franchise in 2022. He has a great experience of captaining his state team and has always been performing with the bat.
He was also made as a skipper of Kolkata Knight Riders, however, he was soon replaced by Eoin Morgan after Karthik had a poor run as captain. He was bought by the RCB for INR 5.5 crore in the recently concluded mega auction.
Virat Kohli
With lots of experience in the league, Virat Kohli might be still the best option for RCB as a captain for IPL 2022. Like MS Dhoni for CSK, Virat Kohli is undoubtedly the face of RCB for over a decade.
With an all-new group of players auctioned for the team, Virat will carry forward the squad and make the best results.
Even though he officially states will no longer captain the RCB side in 2021, RCB is still not yet announced the captain for the squad. Some insiders suggest Virat Kohli might charge in as a skipper for one more season.
